Welcome to Black Dog Astro, a journey into the captivating world of astrophotography. This site is dedicated to my loyal companion, Jax, my black lab, who loves to sit with me and watch the stars. His presence by my side makes every stargazing session even more special. Join me as I continue to explore the cosmos, one photograph at a time.
My adventure began in 2021, during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic when staying indoors was the new norm. With a passion for the stars and a need for a creative outlet, I embarked on a self-taught exploration of capturing the night sky's beauty.
Starting with basic equipment, I gradually upgraded my tools to improve the quality of my images. Each step forward has been a learning experience, filled with both triumphs and obstacles. The high humidity of South Texas and the light pollution from the third-largest city just ten miles away have been constant challenges. However, my dedication and love for astrophotography have kept me motivated to overcome these hurdles.
As a father of two young kids, balancing family life and my passion for astrophotography has required patience and perseverance. Every clear night sky presents an opportunity to capture the wonders of the universe, and I am excited to share my progress and discoveries with you.
Thank you for visiting Black Dog Astro! Every photo you see has been meticulously crafted by me, often requiring 20+ hours of dedication and effort to capture the beauty of the cosmos.
